The history of Judo in Cloud

Simone and Elia, referees

Judo in Cloud is currently developed and managed by Simone and Elia, two 2nd dan athletes of Judo Lavis, the dojo of sensei Lorenzo Gabbi. We have been referees since 2018, and we are currently national first and second category referees.

University

Everything started from the Software Engineering II course that Simone attended at the University of Trento. Together with other friends, the first draft of the program was created. Focused on the main features, the alpha already allowed users to register athletes, create the brackets and run them with the scoreboard on a second screen. During the course, the team studied in detail how to create a resilient, tested and successful application. These principles were followed rigorously, and the original team received the highest grade with honours for the exam.

The original website is available at alpha.judoincloud.com. If you have a demo account, you can use the same credentials to try it and see how everything started.

The first competitions

During the organization of the 14th Trofeo Lavis, in 2023, we discussed with other competition organizers of the Trentino region the need for a new program, modern and easy to use. At the Lavis trophy, a home-made program by Nicola, a computer scientist friend, had been used for a long time, but it required his presence to learn and use it. We therefore worked together with him and with the competition officials of the region to bring Judo in Cloud to the high standards it has reached today, running three controlled events to verify what worked, what did not work and what was still needed. In all three competitions, Judo in Cloud proved to be well above expectations, and it was refined to reach maximum simplicity.

We thank for their help and availability Judo Gardolo, organizer of the 26th Judo in Compagnia, and Yamabushi Ryu, organizer of the 2nd Yamabushi Judo Contest.

15th Trofeo Lavis

On 20 and 21 January 2024 we organized and managed the 15th Trofeo Lavis, with record numbers. You can see all the usage data of the program on the Statistics page.

With this event we showed that our program is not only capable but also convenient to use and configure, and that simplicity does not negatively affect power and correctness. We are ready to organize many more events, and you can take a look at our Competitions page.

We especially thank our sensei, Lorenzo Gabbi, and Fabiola de Nardi, a very experienced coordinator of the Triveneto area who taught us all the rules and all the tricks needed to manage a competition in the best possible way. Their invaluable experience is what made all this possible, and we hope to pass this knowledge on to all the organizers who want to improve their trophy.
